Volunteering in Kenya

ATKYE welcomes anyone who would like to volunteer at Bambakofi School.

Volunteers are selected through a meeting with members of the steering committee to assess their personal characteristics, the motivations behind their application, and the potential activities they could undertake at the school. Volunteer periods should last at least four weeks.

Given the size of the NGO and the expense involved in managing the project, it is not possible to accept volunteers with financial compensation. Only local school staff are paid.

ATKYE can provide board and lodging at the Bambakofi school at a very reasonable price.

Flight expenses and transportation costs to and from the airports are also covered by the volunteers.

Collaborations with DFA and Civil Service

ATKYE is recognised as a partner organisation by SUPSI-DFA. On the pedagogical level, in recent years there have been fruitful educational exchanges with young people who have completed curricular internships at the Bambakofi school, both in the preschool and primary school settings.

ATKYE is also recognised as an employment institution for civil service members interested in spending a period of volunteering with an NGO promoting a project in a developing country.

Several civil servants have served for two to three months at the school, sharing with local staff what they learned during their studies or their first professional experiences.

For anyone interested in volunteering, we recommend reading the information on cooperation and volunteering found on the FOSIT website.
